Curatorial Rationale: “Growing Up”
This exhibition traces a deeply personal journey of emotional and psychological growth, unfolding across three distinct phases: childhood, adolescence, and emerging adulthood. Through a variety of media—including oil stick painting, paper cutouts, dyed textiles, and mixed materials—the artist explores identity, memory, and transformation.
• Childhood is celebrated in Memories, a vibrant, playful piece that evokes innocence and nostalgia through bold colors and dynamic forms.
• Adolescence brings complexity and introspection. Works like Lingering Bruise and Moisture use rain and blue dye to symbolize emotional sensitivity, while Controlling Love contrasts soft wool with rigid wire to explore the tension between familial warmth and control.
• Emerging Adulthood is marked by reconciliation and forward-looking clarity. In Life Direction, lilies represent maternal love and support, guiding the viewer toward the exhibition’s symbolic exit—an embrace of future possibilities.
The exhibition invites viewers to reflect on their own paths of growth, making it a powerful teaching tool for exploring themes of identity, emotional expression, and the evolution of artistic voice.
