Curatorial Rationale: “Celentangled 解 / Unraveled”
This exhibition explores the complex emotional landscape of family through a deeply personal lens, rooted in Chinese cultural values and Confucian ideals. The artist reflects on how familial relationships shape identity, oscillating between warmth and tension, intimacy and conflict.
Through 11 mixed-media works—ranging from painting and sculpture to lens-based art—the recurring motif of the red thread symbolizes the intricate, inescapable ties of blood and heritage. Each piece invites viewers to reconsider the meaning of “home” not just as a physical space, but as a psychological and cultural construct.
The exhibition’s layout mirrors the emotional journey: from light to darkness and back again, guiding audiences through phases of love, rebellion, understanding, and ultimately self-reclamation. Poems accompanying each work deepen the narrative, culminating in the powerful affirmation: “I am my home.”
This body of work encourages reflection on how family influences personal growth and societal identity, making it a compelling study for students exploring art, culture, and self-expression.
